Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission you need:
    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in, or closely related to, your intended teaching field. A minimum grade point average of 2.75 in your undergraduate studies or the highest degree earned.
    • A passing score on the Praxis II Content Area exam in the field which you intend to teach OR commitment to take and pass the exam after registering
    • A Certificate of Eligibility (CE) issued by the State of New Jersey OR completed paperwork to apply for one (see below) OR commitment to complete paperwork to apply for one after registering (see below)

Effective April 2008, unless you obtain your CE we will not issue Stage I completion documents. Students who enter Stage I without a CE must provide a copy of their CE to us when they get it in order for us to issue the NPTNJ completion form and a certificate of completion from SCCC. This provision will expire in January 2010.

Effective February 2010, you must have a CE in order to apply for Stage I. This means that if you have just applied for a CE but have not received it, you can not apply for the April or July Stage I sections. You can still apply for Stage I in January without a CE.

Applying to the SCCC NPTNJ Program:

Submit the following information to SCCC in order to be considered for entrance to the NPTNJ program:
    1. Stage 1 Registration Packet

    3. FOUR (THREE if you already have CE) official transcripts from all colleges attended
    4. $250 non-refundable deposit payable to SCCC (to be applied towards tuition)
Your application is not complete until all the above items are received. You will not be registered at NJCU until your transcripts are received. It is your responsibility to order transcripts without any delay.
