Welcome to the Fall 2020 Semester at Sussex County Community College. The beginning of each semester can bring a wide range of emotions from excitement to anxiety as students learn how to balance schoolwork with their other responsibilities. Start the semester off right by taking care of yourself and your needs! Here are a few tips and tricks:
  1. Get Good Sleep: When you sleep, your brain assists your body in healing itself from the stressors you encountered during the day. Try to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night in order to wake up feeling your best!
  2. Build a Support Network: Being able to reach out to others can be the difference between giving up and reaching success. Your support network can include: family members, friends, professors, advisors, your counselor, or anyone else you feel can help you rise above a problem.
  3. Connect with Classmates: Having a friend in each class can be helpful to keep each other accountable and to study together for exams.
  4. Check-in with a Campus Counselor: Meeting with a campus counselor, or a counselor in the community, allows you to learn stress management techniques, how to calm yourself before a test, and how to combat other issues you may be facing. Contact Alyssa Hoekstra, Advising and Counseling Center, to schedule an appointment: ahoekstra@sussex.edu
  5. Get Active: When you are active, endorphins are released into your body, along with dopamine and serotonin.
