Sussex Art Gallery to feature the work of Alastair Gordon

1/28/2019 12:03:34 PM

The Art Gallery at Sussex County Community College is pleased to present Pattern Recognition by Alastair Gordon, a noted artist, author and critic. A reception for Pattern Recognition will be held on Friday, March 1 from 6 - 8 PM and will continue to be on display until Friday, March 8.

Alastair Gordon’s drawings are about time, patience and memory. Gordon uses the blackest of inks made in Guangzhou, China from an ancient recipe of fermented carbon, bone black pigment and pine-tree resin. He draws with long willow sticks onto sheets of linen rag paper. The ink goes on in to densely viscous skeins, drips, meshes and seemingly random strands. The process of the work in Pattern Recognition is slow, deliberative, repetitive and contemplative.
