Spread Joy this Holiday Season

11/17/2022 11:46:59 PM

Sussex County Community College is offering two opportunities to spread cheer this holiday season through the Holiday Wish Tree initiative and the Military Holiday Card Project. The Holiday Wish Tree, sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta (JWCS), has been a tradition in Sussex County for over twenty-six years, providing gifts to local children and teenagers.

The tree at the College will be displayed in the Student Center Building on campus from November 21st through December 18th. Participants can choose a handmade ornament from the tree; each ornament is tagged with the age and gender of a child. Purchase a gift for that age and gender child. Bring the unwrapped gift to the Campus Life Office or Veterans Center in the Student Center – with the tag on the gift no later than December 20. As a thank you, participants can keep their ornament. The gifts will be delivered to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency where they will distribute them to families based on needs and to teenagers spending their holidays in a group home without their families. For some teens, this will be the only gift they receive.

Sussex County Community College is also participating in the Military Holiday Card Project. The Digital Fine Arts students have designed festive holiday cards for our soldiers overseas. Stop by the Writing Center or Veterans Center in the Student Center, or the College Library, to pick up a card and write a special note to those who are serving our country. Once you finish writing your message, please return your card to one of the aforementioned offices by November 29.

Email your questions and requests for cards to Professor Olga Maali at omaali@sussex.edu.
