Job Description

This is a 12-month administrative and teaching position. This position is needed to coordinate all aspects of our Culinary and Hospitality programs including staffing, evaluation of faculty, and supervision of teaching staff. Heavy recruiting responsibilities (recruiting students and adjunct faculty) and the development of strong retention measures are also expected with this role. Based on institutional need, this candidate should expect to teach 9-12 credits per semester. Teaching may include day and evening classes. Other duties include scheduling/hiring/evaluating/supervising any full-time faculty, adjuncts and staff assigned to these programs, participating in any student appeal processes related to Culinary and Hospitality courses, curriculum development, development of partnerships with local businesses, supervision of internship students, and all assessment-related duties for this program.

This individual, who reports to the Senior Program Supervisor of Culinary Arts, will also assist in overseeing the Arbor Restaurant and Bake Shop operations and maintenance, as well as growing Arbor's catering business. The major responsibilities include: organize and maintain the equipment, rooms, supplies; coordinate the purchase of equipment and replacement of consumable supplies; maintain and analyze records and data in a computer database pertaining to the equipment and supplies; offer instruction and training to faculty and students on the safe use of the equipment; develop written manuals, protocols, and forms related to the equipment in the Department.

Participation in all accreditation-related matters and assorted state-led initiatives, and active committee participation (which may include internal and external committees), and other duties as assigned is expected.

The College's primary goal is to have the courses assigned to the Supervisor, however, when there are not a sufficient number of courses in that specific discipline, the College has the right to assign the supervisor to other courses that they have been deemed sufficiently credentialed to assure they are meeting their teaching load.
  10. Teaches day and evening, in-person.
  11. Integrates technology, including learning management systems, to teach.
  12. Prepares syllabi and curriculum materials.
  13. Participates in assessment of student learning outcomes.
  14. Ability to work with the broad spectrum of students found in a community college environment.
  15. Advises and mentors students.
  16. Serves on college committees including those connected to the college governance process.
  17. Contributes to Department and Division affairs.
  18. Maintains a collegial and respectful demeanor with peers, students, and patrons associated with Arbor Restaurant & all associated Culinary Programs.
  19. Partakes in professional development.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Relevant work experience related to the Culinary Arts. Experience teaching within a culinary program at an institution of higher education is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use computer database management applications.
  • Evidence of strong organizational and project management skills required.
  • Ability to interact with students at the secondary level and effectively promote SCCC's Culinary Arts program required.
  • Culinary and Hospitality field experience required.

Salary:  $55,000 per year
