Job Description

The Student Farm Assistant plays a significant role in the success of SCCC Student Farm during the growing season and during off season in the way of planning for upcoming season. The position requires someone who is hardworking and passionate, an agriculture or horticulture student willing to learn more about farming in particular as well as other horticultural skills. Must be a team player whom is also able and willing to work alone at times. Must be willing to function effectively as a liaison between the Student Farm and the Culinary Department.

  1. Must be dependable, able to take and follow directions, have stamina and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather
  2. Assist with the creation and implementation of Market Garden plan at the Student Farm
  3. Take lead in maintaining and harvesting from Market Garden
  4. Co-coordinate exchange of Market Garden produce, herbs and flower from Student Farm to Culinary Department's Arbor Restaurant and/or Sky lander Cafe
  5. Support Program Supervisor in events, volunteer days and classes to take place at Student Farm
  6. Responsible for watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, mowing, string-trimming at the Student Farm and on Main Campus in Greenhouse, Raised beds and surrounding areas
  7. Must be able to meet deliveries at times
  8. Team player, yet must also work independently
  9. Other duties to be determined

Education/Experience:

Current student within Agriculture Business and/or Horticultural Science; second year student preferred.

Qualifications: Able to lift 40 or more pounds. Willing to work outside in all types of weather. Positive attitude and willing to learn.

Salary:  $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
