SCCC Lowers Credit for Prior Learning Tuition

7/10/2025 12:00:00 PM

Sussex County Community College (SCCC) has reduced the cost of its Credit for Prior Learning program, making it more affordable for students to earn college credit for their prior knowledge and experience. This program allows students to convert their professional, military, or life experience into academic credit by demonstrating mastery of the skills associated with specific courses.

The fee has been reduced to just $50 per credit hour, offering a savings of nearly $200 for a typical three-credit class. This change helps make college more accessible for students who are juggling work, family, or other responsibilities while pursuing a degree or certificate.

Through a structured assessment process, SCCC evaluates each student’s background to determine if their knowledge meets course requirements. It’s a smart way for students to move forward faster—and save money—on their path to graduation.
