Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training

Train to earn your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and prepare for a career in the trucking industry, one of the fastest-growing industries in the country. With over 300,000 truck driving jobs available in the United States, this course is designed for students with little or no commercial driving experience.

Class A Training:

Sussex County Community College's Truck Driver Training course, provided by the 160 Driving Academy, includes everything you need to earn a CDL and find your first job as a truck driver.

  • use of three tractor trailers
  • Four-week course
  • Courses start every Monday
  • Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm
  • Classes are held at Sussex County Community College

After successful completion of the four-week course, you will take the New Jersey MVC administered Class A test and receive a certificate from 160 Driving Academy as well as a New Jersey (or your resident state) Commercial Driver’s License. Most importantly, 160 Driving Academy will work with trucking partners to secure job placement for you.

The Class B CDL allows you to drive a single vehicle 26,001 pounds or more. It also allows you to haul a trailer weighing less than 10,000 pounds. You can also earn CDL endorsements, “extra permissions” that let you operate certain types of vehicles, such as hazmat.

  • Courses start every Monday
  • 120 hours for three weeks of training
  • 40 hours of classroom with 80 hours in the yard
  • Use of 2 box trucks for training

The type of vehicles you can drive with a Class B CDL include straight trucks, buses (city transport buses, school buses, and tour buses), segmented buses, delivery and courier trucks, concrete delivery trucks, dump trucks, garbage trucks, towing trucks, and utility repair vehicles

If your unemployed or underemployed, ask about special funding opportunities that may enable you to enroll in this course and obtain a CDL for no-cost through WIOA or other Governmental funding that may be available.
